TL;DR: Quick Summary
The right host depends on your site: Cloudflare Pages for simple static sites, a managed host like SiteGround, Kinsta or Hostinger for WordPress business sites, and a VPS such as DigitalOcean only if someone on your team will maintain it. October 2026’s PHP2Shell and Node2Shell security releases showed why: managed hosts patched for their customers, while self-managed servers were left to their owners. Below are 10 international hosting providers Kenyan businesses can use, with their prices and plans, how each handles security, and how to choose. Need help? See Studio6’s website design and hosting services.
Choosing a web host is one of the first decisions you make for a business website, and one of the easiest to get wrong. Price and speed matter, but so does a question most people never ask: who is responsible when a serious security flaw is found in the server software?
That question stopped being theoretical on 21 October 2026, when PHP and Node.js both shipped emergency security fixes. We’ll explain what happened further down, because it’s a useful way to judge hosts. First, here are 10 international hosting providers worth considering for a website in Kenya. If you would rather host with a company based in Kenya, see our guide to web hosting companies in Kenya.
Status note: this post reflects public information available on 1 November 2026. Plans, prices and security statuses change, so confirm details with the provider before you buy. We are not sponsored by any provider mentioned here.
Top 10 International Web Hosting Providers for Kenyan Businesses (2026)
These are not ranked. Each suits a different type of website, budget and level of technical skill. For each one we note the hosting style, who handles server patching, and who it’s best for.
1. Spaceship
- Hosting style: domain registrar with hosting products
- Who patches: depends on the plan; confirm with Spaceship
- Best for: affordable domains and lightweight sites
Spaceship is best known for domain registration, with first-year .com promotions that can start from roughly KES 130 to KES 500. Renewal prices are higher, so check them before you buy. Its shared hosting has three plans, Essential, Pro and Supreme, from about KES 210 a month on yearly billing after a 30-day free trial. If you add hosting there too, confirm exactly what is managed on your specific plan.
2. Hostinger
- Hosting style: managed shared and cloud hosting; self-managed VPS
- Who patches: Hostinger on managed plans; you on VPS
- Best for: budget-conscious small business sites
Hostinger offers budget-friendly entry plans and its easy hPanel dashboard, and every plan on its pricing page includes email. During the PHP2Shell response, it finished patching its managed hosting on 22 October. Its VPS plans are self-managed, so VPS customers had to update PHP themselves.
3. SiteGround
- Hosting style: managed cloud and WordPress hosting
- Who patches: SiteGround
- Best for: business sites that need hands-off security
SiteGround runs premium managed WordPress hosting on Google Cloud infrastructure. It said it had protections in place on all its servers before PHP’s official release, with the affected functionality disabled, so customers did not need to act.
4. Namecheap
- Hosting style: shared and EasyWP hosting; self-managed VPS
- Who patches: Namecheap on shared; you on VPS
- Best for: starter websites and domain management
Namecheap combines reliable domain registration with affordable shared hosting. It finished its shared-server maintenance for PHP2Shell on 22 October. As with Hostinger, customers on self-managed VPS plans handle their own patching.
5. HostGator
- Hosting style: shared, cPanel and dedicated servers
- Who patches: HostGator on shared; you on self-managed dedicated plans
- Best for: traditional small business websites
A long-established hosting brand with familiar cPanel-based plans. We did not find a public PHP2Shell status for it, so ask HostGator directly. Check which plan type you are buying before assuming it is managed.
6. GoDaddy
- Hosting style: shared web hosting and managed WordPress hosting; self-managed VPS and dedicated servers
- Who patches: GoDaddy on web hosting and managed WordPress; you on VPS and dedicated servers
- Best for: small business sites that want a large, established provider
GoDaddy patched every PHP version on its Managed Hosting for WordPress on 21 October and on its Web Hosting on 22 October. It left PHP updates on customer-managed VPS and dedicated servers to the customers, and it advised customers to check the build date, not the version number. Its Economy, Deluxe and Ultimate plans include cPanel and free email.
7. Cloudflare (Pages and Workers)
- Hosting style: static edge network
- Who patches: not applicable; static files, no PHP or Node server for you to maintain
- Best for: fast, low-maintenance static sites
Cloudflare Pages serves pre-built HTML, CSS and JavaScript from a global network, with free HTTPS and no server to patch. Cloudflare also switched on protection against PHP2Shell by default for its free and paid WAF plans on 21 October. The trade-off is that it can’t run a database-driven site such as a standard WordPress or e-commerce store on its own. Our guide to launching a website in Kenya for KES 500 shows how to use it.
8. DigitalOcean
- Hosting style: unmanaged cloud servers (Droplets) and App Platform
- Who patches: you on Droplets; the platform manages more of the stack on App Platform
- Best for: custom web apps and developer stacks
DigitalOcean is a developer favourite for scalable cloud servers. On a raw Droplet, nobody patches PHP or Node.js for you, so only choose it if someone is clearly responsible for maintenance. On App Platform, confirm the runtime version your app uses.
9. Kinsta
- Hosting style: premium managed WordPress hosting
- Who patches: Kinsta
- Best for: high-traffic WordPress and e-commerce sites
Kinsta runs on Google Cloud with Cloudflare integration and is built for higher-traffic business sites. It began rolling out PHP fixes on 21 October and resolved the incident on 22 October, reporting no evidence of any breaches. Plugin and theme updates remain your responsibility.
10. Hosting.com (formerly A2 Hosting)
- Hosting style: shared and VPS plans
- Who patches: the provider on shared; you on self-managed VPS
- Best for: speed-focused CMS sites with custom PHP or Node.js needs
Hosting.com, formerly A2 Hosting, is known for performance-focused plans and flexible runtime options. It rolled out patches for every PHP version on its cPanel and Plesk shared hosting and managed servers, and on 22 October it pointed customers to the PHP build date to confirm the fix. Confirm what is managed on the plan you choose. For Kenya, Hosting.com lists its plans in Kenya shillings.

How to Choose the Right Host for Your Website
- A simple brochure or portfolio site: a static site on Cloudflare Pages is cheap, fast and has the smallest attack surface.
- A WordPress site that brings in enquiries: choose a managed host such as SiteGround, Kinsta or a managed Hostinger plan, so the provider handles server patching. You still need to keep plugins and themes updated.
- A business that wants to pay in Kenya shillings: Hosting.com lists its plans in shillings for Kenya. Most other international hosts bill in US dollars.
- A custom app or heavier workload: a VPS or cloud platform gives you control, but only choose it if someone on your team is clearly responsible for patching.

Why Patching Responsibility Matters: PHP2Shell and Node2Shell
On 21 October 2026, two critical security releases landed on the same day. Both are flaws in the software that runs underneath your website code, so a well-built site can still be exposed if the server is out of date.
- PHP2Shell (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619): two critical remote code execution flaws in PHP, each scored 9.2 on the CVSS v4 scale. PHP released fixed versions 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35, and security firm watchTowr reported exploitation in the wild. PHP 8.1 and older no longer get official patches.
- Node2Shell (CVE-2026-111497): an out-of-bounds write in the Brotli decoder bundled with Node.js, fixed in 22.23.4, 24.22.1 and 26.12.1. Applications are at risk when they decompress Brotli data that an attacker controls. Node.js 20 and 25 are end-of-life and will not receive a fix.
What happened next depended on who was responsible for the server. According to the hosts’ own statements, collected by trackers such as webhosting.today, managed hosts including SiteGround, Hostinger, Kinsta and Namecheap applied fixes or mitigations across their shared and managed platforms within about a day. Customers on self-managed VPS or dedicated plans had to patch their own servers. The same company can be managed on one plan and unmanaged on another, so always check which you bought.
What to check today
- Ask your host in writing whether PHP2Shell is fixed on your plan and whether you need to do anything.
- Check the build date, not just the version number. Hosts often backport the fix, so a version like 8.5.11 may already be patched. GoDaddy and Hostinger say a build date of 21 October 2026 or later means the fix is in.
- On your own VPS, update PHP and restart PHP-FPM or Apache so the new build loads. Upgrade Node.js to a patched version and replace end-of-life releases such as Node.js 20.
- Don’t rely on a firewall alone. It can block known attacks while a patch rolls out, but it is not a substitute for the patch.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does international web hosting cost for a Kenyan business?
International shared hosting typically advertises roughly KES 200 to KES 1,900 a month on a prepaid first term, then renews at roughly KES 500 to KES 5,800 a month. Managed WordPress hosting such as Kinsta starts at $35 a month ($30 a month billed yearly), a basic DigitalOcean server starts at $4 a month, and static hosting on Cloudflare Pages is free.
What is the best international web hosting for a small business in Kenya?
It depends on your site. A static site suits a simple portfolio, a managed host suits a WordPress business site, and a VPS suits custom applications if you have someone to maintain it.
Can a Kenyan business use an international web host?
Yes. International hosts serve customers in Kenya, and most bill in US dollars, while Hosting.com lists its plans in Kenya shillings. Large international managed hosts often provide stronger built-in security tooling and faster patch responses, while Kenyan providers can offer local pricing and support. Compare the plan you are considering rather than the brand.
Is managed hosting safer than unmanaged hosting?
For server patching, usually yes, because the provider handles runtime updates for you. It is not a complete guarantee, since you still need to keep your own plugins, themes and passwords secure.
What is PHP2Shell?
PHP2Shell is the name given to two critical PHP vulnerabilities, CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, that can let an unauthenticated attacker run code on a web server. PHP released fixed versions on 21 October 2026.
What is Node2Shell?
Node2Shell is the nickname for CVE-2026-111497, an out-of-bounds write in the Brotli decoder bundled with Node.js. It can lead to code execution in applications that decompress untrusted Brotli data. Fixes are in Node.js 22.23.4, 24.22.1 and 26.12.1.
Are static sites on Cloudflare Pages affected?
A site made only of static files has no PHP or Node.js server for these vulnerabilities to target. If you add server-side features, such as a database or custom backend, check what runtime they use.
